I first heard of this firm while on Facebook. I had never heard of it before, and with it's mention of being based on an app, I decided to look into it.
Ibotta uses their "mobile coupon cutting" for groceries as a marketing ploy to attract consumers but their cause, ambition and potential greatly surpass that. This firm is as much about serving other firms as it is about serving consumers, if not more. The ability for companies to essentially set up an entire mobile marketing campaign on this app is a strong feature, and is perhaps a key factor in so many prominent retailers having a presence in their retailer network, such as Wal-Mart, Lowe's and AMC movie theaters.
That is not to say that consumers are not the beneficiaries. To begin, use of the app seems pretty simple. It acts as a shopping list of sorts, keeping track of the rebate opportunities associated with each product. Once it is bought from the corresponding store, you scan the reciept and the money, actual cash, is stored in your account. Opportunities to increase your rebate are available through taking part in a poll or sharing your future purchase with the social media outlet of your choice.
With it's no-strings attached approach regarding cash rather than store credit or points, combined with the variety of very popular stores and organization, I could see myself using this app before any shopping trip.
